Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Wednesday. Issued
0540z, 21/05/05. The runs still show warmer conditions affecting (mainly) England for a time at the end of next week, before fresher weather sweeps in from the west over the weekend. The latest GFS considerably downgrades the warm spell, with temperatures only just reaching 20C on Thursday due to large amounts of cloud. As ever, more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif A weak ridge covers southern England with a col over much of the UK. Winds are westerlies over England and Wales, light northerlies for northern Scotland and variable elsewhere. A deep low moves over Northern Ireland at T+144, bringing SW'lies and southerlies. This is followed by variable winds for England and Wales as a weak ridge crosses those countries at T+168; elsewhere winds are NW'lies or westerlies. MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html The Met Office chart shows SW'lies across much the UK with a large low to the west. The low deepens and moves NE'wards at T+144, allowing SW'lies to continue affecting the UK. GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm Low pressure is centred to the west of Ireland, bringing SE'lies for Scotland and Northern Ireland with SW'lies elsewhere. 850hPa temperatures vary from -1C over northern Scotland to +9C over southern England. Southerlies and SSW'lies cover the UK at T+144 as the low deepens west of Ireland, followed by cooler WSW'lies and SW'lies as the low continues to deepen at T+168. Day 8 sees a ridge to the SW with westerlies for all. By day 9 a new low lies to the west, introducing SW'lies and by day 10 the low fills over Scotland, with WSW'lies and northerlies over the UK. Ensembles: http://217.160.75.104/pics/MT8_London_ens.png Unavailable at time of issue. GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html The Canadian run shows the UK between a low to the west and a high to the SE, with SW'lies as a result. The winds become WSW'lies at T+144 as the low moves NE'wards to the north of Scotland, followed by light and variable winds for many due to a col on day 7. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...210000_120.gif Westerlies cover the UK, wwhich lies bwteeen a low to the west and a trough to the north. A new trough moves NE'wards over the UK at T+144, followed by westerlies as it moves away to the north at T+168. JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html The Japanese run shows SW'lies for the UK, with low pressure SW of Ireland. By T+144 the low moves over Scotland, introducing westerlies and northerlies. NOGAPS: http://wetterzentrale.com/pics/Rngp1201.gif A low lies over the North Sea, with westerlies and northerlies as a result. The winds are replaced by SW'lies and southerlies at T+144 as a low moves NE'wards towards Ireland. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif Complex low pressure is located to the north and west, resulting in westerlies for all. |
