Default Dust-rain event 23rd May???

Looks like it will remain a mystery (and can't be a 'desert-origin'
dust/rain event); very striking on the vehicles I saw - the fact that you
(Bernard) have had reports for yesterday (22nd) may point to something
very local, but if it is, then it affected a large area of south and SW
Bracknell.

Martin.

No indication here of dust:

But there does appear to be dust in the cold air of the low west of Ireland
http://www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/abin/pro...roject.ch2.jpg
shows up best in black and white I think.
The most likely source must be Iceland as this is where the air mass
originates and would fit yr bill Martin.
The patchy nature of the rain wld easily lead to local deposition,

Between 04 and 05Z this morning (23rd), we had some rain from a
trough-like feature crossing southern-most counties of England. I noticed
when I did the ob at 09Z that we had had some rain in the gauge (trace
only), and that the adjacent plastic/3inch gauge had a dusty deposit in
the funnel. However, didn't really think this was significant as couldn't
be sure that it wasn't just days accumulation of dirt.

However, have now come back from weekly shop at Sainsbury's over at
Bagshot Road and *many* cars there, and also in the Great Hollands car
park have a *significant* deposit of light-grey fine dust (with streaking
of the deposit) ... I can't be sure it was the feature above that caused
this, but the number of vehicles affected is high and the effect striking.

Anyone else in the south seen this or similar?

Martin.

Martin

Unlike the other respondents, I can report that my car had a very dusty
windscreen last night, when I drove it for the first time since lunchtime on
Saturday (when it was quite clean). I suspected something wind-borne so at
least I know of somebody else in the locality with the same evidence.
Definitely not the yellow stuff which covers the countryside around Fleet to
the chagrin of kiticat.

Farnborough, Hants

Looks like it will remain a mystery (and can't be a 'desert-origin'

No indication here of dust:

Tree pollen?

.... I think the wrong colour; the 'fire' idea would be nearer, except
I'm not aware of anything like that *this* weekend; two weekends ago it
would have been different!

Martin.
