uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged.

Default Interim update, Will?

Winds look like they will be coming too much from a westerly direction.
Thats not where snow comes from.

Not often, agreed, but it can happen. I remember an occasion when we had
snow showers in a westerly direct from Labrador. Another time, a low to the
north of Scotland had a slow-moving trough lying to the west of the UK so
that the returning cold air approached us from Biscay. I must admit that it
seemed odd to have snow showers approaching us from that direction.

I would imagine things are pretty much in line with last Thursday's
forecast. Some of the latest charts look quite cold in the more realistic
time frame. The strong NW'ly looks futher west than in recent incursions
of
this type. I wondered what your (or others) latest views were for the
Christmas weekend.

Cheers, Dave

Dave see my other thread. Looking mighty interesting, beyond Xmas now too.
But yes things are still going to plan :-)

Will,
Permission to get a little bit excited then? Or, as I live in Essex, should
I retain a dignified pessimism?

Victor

It's always best to keep a dignified pessimism, whether with the
weather, astronomical phenomena, or even the England football team
winning a prestigious trophy ;-)
