Good evening everyone.
50-110 mm of rain fell during the weekend in the basin of Athens (big variation due to orography), while most areas around Greece reported substantial rainfalls, especially in the west, the northeast and the southeast. Dramatic pictures were broadcast on TV stations showing tons of hailstones floating on rigorously flowing 50 cm deep rivers on central roads of the western suburbs. Snowfalls were generally restricted to higher grounds. Unfortunately, I was away in Thessaloniki during the weekend, where on-off showers were heavy but not long lasting. The second low has just started affecting the west and northwest of the country now and it is already snowing heavily in western Macedonia (Florina, Ptolemaida etc). More snow is forecast for some low lying areas of mainly northern and central Greece during the following 48 hours. Athens can't hope for too much this time, at least snow-wise.
