Default Date temperature record??

Martin Rowley wrote:
Not sure if my list is up to date (JC Webb & GT Meaden, Weather,
September 2000), but for the 19th of June, I have the record as 32.8°C
(presumably a conversion from °F) which has stood since 1893
(Southampton). From latest observations, this looks under threat.

Reached 31.9C here in Canterbury at 16:25pm. Not the hottest day of the
year though - 31.9C was also set on 27th May!

Had a nice day walking the cliffs around Capel-le-Ferne and Samphire Hoe
- will get some photos sorted out soon, but there were plenty of orchids
around.

Question For Philip Eden

Does a rooftop reading qualify for setting a new record ?

Paul, no it won't. Not least because the successive lists
produced by Webb and Meaden over the years
specifically exclude rooftop sites -- and all other
non-standard sites.

Thanks Philip. I am interested in what Wisley reached. Anyone in the know
?

I'm told it made 31.0°C at Wisley but 32.4°C at St James's
Park. An unofficial (thanks, Tim) 34.4°C at Pembroke Square in
Kensington which is a ground level Stevenson screen with m-i-g
thermometers over grass, but quite enclosed (naturally).
