At the bottom of the home page is a link that say's "Non-Active" Although the options there won't give you a daily trace of wind direction. The WeatherUnderground link is the only one were you can see it's all but stuck. http://www.wunderground.com/weathers...p?ID=IESSEXSO1 Thanks for your thoughts Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net A good place to start looking. Just wandered over to your site to see if any direction plots are available but if they are I can't get to 'em. 6 boxes that require a plugin and a box in the menu bar that presumably wants a bit of script to work before it shows anything useful. The wunderground direction graph doesn't show any changes for today. If not then it's the potentiometer, Or it's mounting nut, though that coming loose is unlikely I would have thought. is this easy to get to, if it needs replacing, similarily the cable joints inside. Donno couldn't afford Davis kit when I got my station. B-) -- Keith (Southend) 'Weather Home & Abroad' http://www.southendweather.net |

The direction has moved, but is always wrong, it seem to shift in time, but not fluctuate every couple seconds like it normally does. I was just looking at the instructions from the original assembly. I guess the first thing to try is that allen key, it maybe loose? If not then it's the potentiometer, is this easy to get to, if it needs replacing, similarily the cable joints inside. I'm just afraid of doing more damage than good. I can only speak for the wind speed reed switch position. I asked John Dann for information about this and he told me that he would have to send it away himself as he did not have the specialist tools needed for the job. He gave me the conatct name and I returned it to them directly. I assumed when I replied that all of the bolts on your vane were tight and that some kind of internal fault had developed. It cost me about £30 +postage for the repair which I thought was reasonable give the cost of most service charges these days. Alan Gardiner Chiswell Green, St Albans N51:44 W00:21 101m ASL |

Ok,
It's been a good day to get up to look at my Davis Anemometer, especially as the Sun Recorder it fitted to the same pole and it's been 8/8 cloud all day. My hunch seems to have been correct, unless the general handling of it has woken it up. Firstly, I know now that it is a sealed unit, there is no way you could get in their without breaking the plastic, unless the potentiomter is accessable via the nut that sits under the vein. Basically, the vein was turning but not moving the actual metal stud that the 'Allen' key is supposed to lock it to. Unfortunately I couldn't find the allen key and it's a tiny one. Anyone know where I could get such a tiny key? Anyway a temporary fix using 'Blutack' which so far 'touch wood' appears to have solved the problem. It's nightmare having to get up on the roof, tweak it, come all the way down and see what's registering on the monitor. My Wife did assist at one stage. Bless her :-) She thinks I'm completely off my trolley. Regards -- Keith (Southend) 'Weather Home & Abroad' http://www/southendweather.net |

IIRC the size is 0.04", ie 40 thou. Don't be tempted to use one that's
a little too small or a metric size - it's not difficult to round the 'corners' of the hexagon in the grub screw by applying a little too much torque on tightening and then there's a bigger problem! JGD |

A shed will probably only have sets and may well be retail packed... A decent tool shop should have one, yellow pages? -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |

JGD Thanks John, if todays adventure hadn't worked, I would be asking your good self where to send it to get it fixed :-) Sept 1999 I think was when I bought the Davis WMII, so it's getting on six years now. Always a worry. Thanks -- Keith (Southend) 'Weather Home & Abroad' http://www.southendweather.net |
