Good afternoon, everyone.
The last few days have seen the battle of the sea breeze (generally of SW direction in Athens) and the etesians (N/NE direction). While the sea breeze has a refreshing effect on temperatures around the coasts of Attica, a northeasterly usually pushes the 'heat island' effect of the city towards the Saronic gulf suburbs. This inverse regime of temperatures in the basin of Athens is very well pictured on this image of temperature maxima on June 17th: http://users.ntua.gr/jorgalan/jpg/170605highs.jpg (map by Jordan Galanis, ntua.gr) Settled weather has been persisting over the greek isles but the mainland has seen some localised thunderstorms over the last couple of days. Marginally unsettled in Athens with abundant sunshine and only a few vertical cloud developments during the warmest hours of the day. Yannis, SE Athens +27.2C, SE Athens (last days' max was +32.1C on June 17th) |
