In the *very* limited time I have been here I have noticed that there is a thunderstorm "alley" in South Devon stretching from Torquay - Newton Abbot - Chudleigh. The Teign valley and other areas south of Haldon Hill are also prone. Haytor is on the edge, with Yarner Wood and Bovey Tracey more prone. Plymouth to Tavistock is another prone strip as is along the A30 near Okehampton. The high moor and the Exeter area often seem to miss the storms. When I give up work and have more time on my hands I intend to do some proper investigations and eventually come up with a detailed thunderstorm/shower climatology for Devon. I also intend to do the same with snow producing maps of snowlines according to synoptic type etc. Will. -- " Forget the BBC, visit www.metoffice.gov.uk for UK weather information " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A COL BH site in East Dartmoor at Haytor, Devon 310m asl (1017 feet). mailto: www: http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk DISCLAIMER - All views and opinions expressed by myself are personal and do not necessarily represent those of my employer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interesting Remarks Will ![]() Gary www.weatherbanter.co.uk |
