Default Band of storms

The sferics and radar are showing quite a development coming up from the
SW - now approaching S. Wales with a lot of C-C lightning and some C-G.
I don't remember when there was last this amount generated in open water
rather than coming from heated land surfaces. Is this unusual?

Cheers,

James
