![]() ================================================== ================== This posting expresses the personal view and opinions of the author. Something which everyone on this planet should be able to do. ================================================== ================== Could not get to sleep last night. 0205 woken by heavy rain. Then at 0330 thunderstorm started and now at 0745 it is still going on ! Almost continuous loud thunder and lightning and so far 25.4 mm rain and rain rate 1.0 mm/h . At 0405 we had a terrific bolt of C-G which took out the power for about 10 minutes. (I had already switched the PC off by then). At 0630 I saw a shelf cloud looking SW which looked like something out of a movie with rotation evident. Another massive C-G which I had to admit frightened me a bit as it was so close. Power stayed on at that time. Now the darkest area is to the east, the street lights still seem to be on in the distance and it is eerie seeing the blackness. It might be coming to an end now but the storm is still rumbling on. Thought it would be OK to put PC back on, but now switching off again. 0745 13.6 DP 13 NE 5 knots Thunderstorm Vis 5Km Bar 1013.1 - falling OK I'm back to bed, I'm completely knackered, but strangely satisfied :-) Will. -- " Forget the BBC, visit www.metoffice.gov.uk for UK weather information " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A COL BH site in East Dartmoor at Haytor, Devon 310m asl (1017 feet). mailto: www: http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk DISCLAIMER - All views and opinions expressed by myself are personal and do not necessarily represent those of my employer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Still can't sleep so I've got up again. Three strong cups of coffee have done
the trick :-) Still thunder rumbling away at 0845 but the rain has now stopped. 29.5 mm total (AWS). Garden is sopping wet again, ah well. One thing I forgot to mention last night was the strong and gusty wind max gust was 28 knots at 0445 local. Looking at the radar the whole event has an MCS signature but the satellite image I saw for 0600 did not bear that out. At 0815 'ish (just after getting up for the second time) I looked out of the window and saw a tremendous white flash heading straight down to Newton Abbot anyone get anything there ? My wife went out for a walk around 0800 to try and calm our dog down, she remarked on how the cows seemed totally oblivious to all the action grazing away, honestly how can they :-) 0900 and the rain has started again. I want my summer back :-) Will. -- "Will Hand" wrote in message ... ================================================== ================== This posting expresses the personal view and opinions of the author. One minute 15 mm/h the next less than 1mm/h. At no stage would I have described the rainfall as torrential, just very heavy which is why we only got just over 30mm. The storm was notable for the fantastic lightning and loud booming thunder and of course the shelf cloud with rotation. Cheers, Will. -- |

Interesting near surface dry slot on the 00Z Camborne ascent, provided it is correct - http://weather.uwyo.edu/cgi-bin/soun...&STNN=Camborne Joe |
