uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

I don't have the knowledge to help, Peter, but I am surprised with the
amount of moisture ingress problems you have had. I have had my Oregon remote temp sensor for a few years now and apart from a couple of battery changes I have had no problems at all. On occasions I have left it out in the rain and it even sat in some water in the bottom of my home made Stevenson's screen for several days once. It's always been exposed to the air, although covered from above, at least. Perhaps I have just been lucky! Dave |

It has an O-ring seal around the electronics and the sensor head seems to be immune from moisture. Try using a bit of silicone rubber compound to seal it if you are concerned. As for the OP's concerns about reed switches, I would replace it with a semiconductor device, like a hall effect sensor or inductive proximity sensor, and if there are any concerns over interfacing to the PC input/output card, you could always use the HED or IP sensor to drive a relay local to the PC.
