The Met Office has announced its intention to close all its regional
weather centres and move the work to its Hq in the far southwest. :-( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4691071.stm ************************************************** *** "The minister in charge of the Met Office Mr Touhig said the Met Office had been "in a mess" since the plans were revealed last month. "In all honesty, I don't think this whole operation has been handled terribly well by the Met Office," he said... ...."That is why I put a stop to the whole operation and said there will be a consultation period. I'm not taking on board any recommendation from the Met Office board or anybody else until everyone who is involved, or is interested, has a say." ************************************************** ** There is an electronic petition here; http://www.petitiononline.com/SCOTMET/petition.html which is aimed at keeping the Aberdeen office open. Please sign it if you agree with the sentiment. |

It may now just possibly consider bringing the Met Office under a little more control with regard to its commercially-oriented outlook. If it does, I feel it will be done rather quietly, being a denial of current dogma. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |

oups.com The government, having created the structure by which the Met Office could contemplate these closures, now finds itself seriously embarrassed. I don't see how. Since there were three tory leaders since Thatcher ruined things there. None of them any more irresponsible than the megalomaniac who caused the problem initially. It may now just possibly consider bringing the Met Office under a little more control with regard to its commercially-oriented outlook. You subscribe to the Liebnitz theory of everything happening for the best in the best of all possible worlds then? Ruining the country is for the bean counters but running it should be left to the bean growers. If it does, I feel it will be done rather quietly, being a denial of current dogma. I should stick to meteorology if I were you. Polytricks is not your strong suit. -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |
