Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Tuesday. Issued 0555z,
22/07/05. The models continue to show high pressure close to Iceland and southerly tracking lows affecting the UK. There's still a fair difference between the runs regarding the track of the lows, but for once it's looking like southern areas will see more rain than northern areas. Once again things are looking close to slightly below average for the south, with quite cool / cold conditions likely the further north you are. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif Northerlies cover the UK due to a high to the WNW and a low to the NE. A ridge sinks southwards across the UK at T+144, bringing northerlies and easterlies, followed by easterlies and NW'lies at T+168 as low pressure forms over France. MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html High pressure extends northwards from north of the Azores to Greenland, leading to northerlies and NW'lies over the UK. GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm A col covers the UK with light winds for all. 850hPa temperatures vary from +2C over NE Scotland to +8C over southern England. Low pressure fills over the Low Countries at T+144, bringing NE'lies across the UK. The winds become northerlies on day 7 as pressure rises to the west, followed by further northerlies on day 8. Day 9 sees the high ridge over the UK, with lighter northerlies and NE'lies. By day 10 the UK lies under light winds as the high moves over Scotland. Ensembles: http://217.160.75.104/pics/MT8_London_ens.png The ensembles show 850hPa temperatures around average until 26th, followed by a split between relatively warm and relatively cool runs. By the end of next week the runs agree on a cool spell. GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html The Canadian run shows northerlies and NNW'lies with a high to the west. The high moves slowly eastwards at T+144 with further northerlies across the UK. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...220000_120.gif Wales lies under low pressure, leading to southerlies for much of England and easterlies or NE'lies elsewhere. NE'lies cover the whole of the UK at T+144 as the low moves slowly eastwards. JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html Light and variable winds cover England and Wales due to a col, followed by easterlies and NE'lies at T+144 as a trough moves northwards over England and Wales. NOGAPS: http://wetterzentrale.com/pics/Rngp1201.gif NOGAPS shows lows to the NE and SW with the UK sandwiched between the two. Winds are light over NE England, Scotland and Ireland, with SE'lies and easterlies elsewhere. Easterlies and NE'lies cover the UK at T+144 as the low to the SW fills and moves slowly NE'wards. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif The Korean model also shows lows to the SW and NE, this time with light winds across the UK. |
