Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Sunday. Issued 0552z,
27/07/05. The models show signs of a ridge affecting the UK for the beginning of next week, although as is often the case it'll move swiftly SE'wards over the UK to bring about a typical north/south split. Southern areas look like becoming increasingly dry and possibly quite warm, whereas Northern Ireland and Scotland are more likely to see cloud streaming in from the Atlantic. As ever, more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif A ridge lies to the west, leading to NNW'lies and NW'lies. The ridge moves over England and Wales at T+144, bringing westerlies and NW'lies there with westerlies and SW'lies elsewhere. By T+168 the ridge lies to the south with westerlies for all. MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html The UK lies under a ridge with light SW'lies and NW'lies. A trough approaches from the west at T+144, bringing SW'lies for all. GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm A weak ridge covers the UK, bringing light NW'lies to most areas. 850hPa temperatures vary from +3C over NE England to +7C over Cornwall. A trough moves swiftly eastwards over the UK at T+144 to bring WSW'lies followed by warmer westerlies at T+168. A ridge moves over England, Ireland and Wales at T+144 with westerlies and NW'lies over the UK, with more of the same on day 9. By day 10 the ridge builds across most of the UK, although northern Scotland lies under moderate westerlies. GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html Ireland is covered by a ridge, leading to light northerlies for much of England and Wales, with SW'lies elsewhere. SW'lies move across much of the UK at T+144 as the ridge moves SE'wards. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...270000_120.gif Cloudy westerlies and NW'lies cover the UK, once again due to a weak ridge over Ireland. A trough moves eastwards at T+144 to bring westerlies for all. JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html The UK lies under northerlies wih a ridge over Ireland and Scotland. The ridge moves eatwards at T+144, introducing westerlies to Northern Ireland and Scotland. By T+168 the whole of the UK lies under WSW'lies as the ridge sinks SE'wards. NOGAPS: http://wetterzentrale.com/pics/Rngp1201.gif NOGAPS shows a trough over England and Wales with light winds across the UK. The trough moves away to the east at T+144, allowing westerlies and WNW'lies to affect the UK. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif The Korean model shows a ridge from the west affecting the UK, with northerlies for most. |

Ironic that the return of westerlies should bring about a huge
