Can't remember much about this day until the evening when, to everyone's
surprise, there was a thunderstorm of almost summerlike intensity. I think it started at about 1900 and lasted for 15 to 20 minutes. There was a lot of lightning and loud thunder which caused a lot of discussion between my parents and friends the next day because it was so unusual. The storm diverted me from reading the new 'Radio Fun ' and 'Film Fun' annuals which were very popular at that time. Now that I have access to the Internet I have looked up www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten/fsslpeur.html for 25/12/1947 and seen that there was what looked like an unstable SW airstream so,presumably, a trough pepped up the showers as it moved across the country. The only other instance of thunder on Christmas Day I have known was in 1970 when a clap of thunder in the early hours accompanied snow showers. I am much enjoying reading the Newsgroup every day and wish everyone a Happy Christmas and an interesting year's weather in 2005. Peter Clarke Ewell Temperature at 0945 was 1.8c. |
