Virtually unbroken strong sunshine and an offshore NE breeze pushed the
temperature up to 25.8 in Penzance today, the warmest day since 14th July. The only cloud being a few patches of dense cirrus and some altocumulus early, but this had cleared southwards by 10:00, and some cumulus along the Lizard peninsula for a while this afternoon. Hopefully the sun is going to continue through August down here (long-term forecasts look good) to top off what has been a very good summer (easily the best summer I have had in this country since 1995). If it hadn't been for the week or so of unsettled weather at the end of July it has virtually been a non-stop sunny and hot summer. My parents live back in Worcester and they say it has been nowhere near as good up there. I'm looking forward to many more days on the beach and swimming in the sea before the autumn - fantastic! ________________ Nick G Exe Valley, Devon 50 m amsl "Graham Easterling" wrote in message ... Yes, amazingly reached 26.2 in our sheltered little valley this afternoon. That's my third hottest August day I've recorded in the last ten years. I don't thint the forecasters saw that coming. I think the make-or-break week in July for the Southampton area was not
the final week but the penultimate working week of 18th-22nd. The forecasts suggested a continuation of the fine spell (and I think that's what actually happened in the southwest) but the Monday and Wednesday morning had intermittent light rain, and the Tuesday was cloudy and cool. If that week had been fine it would have changed the whole feel of July even taking into account the cool, changeable first and last weeks. June was predominantly fine here too, except the first 5 days or so. Nick |
