Default OT AC/DC Adapter

The AC/DC adaper that feeds my Solwise adsl modem has a bad wiring
connection were it goes into the sealed unit that plugs into the 3-pin
household socket. It has be fixed on 9v 1100mA. Looking at Maplins I can
only find 9v 400mA, 300mA, not being to up on this what's the difference
and would a 400mA one be ok?

or

Many thanks

Only if you want to start a fire...

a 300mA or 400mA unit will fry if the load really needs 1A current.

You would be better off getting a unit rated for 1.5A & 9v and you will
need to know polarity and connector type if the thing is a DC supply.

If you don't know what you are doing you would be better off buying a
replacement PSU or modem. They spend too long on power to take chances.

Martin Brown

Keith, you will need something rated to supply at least 1100mA, like
this for example:

Thanks Steve / Martin. As usual the litrature that comes with the adsl
router doesn't say much, I just looked at what the old adapter was set
at, it can be switched to other voltages but Solwise have, for good
reason, put a 'seal' over the screw type switch. It definately states on
the device, which is switched to 9v, which has written on it 9v - 1100mA
or 1.1A.

I've moved the eold adapter to another location and made sure the lead
if free, not bundled with others, it seems ok now, but if the wiring is
'iffy' inside that could also pose a fire risk.

No Keith it needs to draw 1100ma. There's this regulated variable supply at
maplins -all you do is select the voltage As you'll see it supplies 1200ma.
