the light over london 2 nights ago was amazing, and after looking at
some photos i took i noticed a band of green light in the clouds - did anyone else notice this and does anyone know what could have caused it? |

Alcohol? The sunset with clear sky to the west if the remains of the cloud? Brown-purple velvet texture, clouds in relief? My son took pootographs - yet to look at them. -- Peter Thomas SW Surrey |

pretty clear in the west, cloudy to the east, and from where i was in
west london i could see very purple sky to the north as you mentioned but to the south-east there was an amazing band of cloud above the horizon that was fiery yellow. above this, for a very brief period, was a very narrow band of cloud of a green hue which i've never seen before. i've seen references on the web to the 'green flash' but that seems to be in clear skies at the moment of sunset - this was nothing like that. |

I didn't see the phenomenon, but it would not have been the "Green
Flash". The Green Flash is an effect sometimes seen when looking at the sun itself as it sets (or rises) and not when looking away from the sun. Seldom seen from the ground in Britain but often seen in other places (eg Antarctic) and indeed not infrequently when flying (I was lucky enough to see many green flashes during my flying career) Jack |

Could it have been pollution? Green coloured gas produced when pollutants
react with other gases in the high atmosphere. Just a guess really? Mike www.dudleyweather.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk wrote in message ups.com... Yes, there was a greenlight in the sky on Wednesday night/evening. I noticed it around 8:30 ish pm as the last of the clouds moved through. Looking at some of the responses to your initial post I felt politically obliged to scour away the **** that spewed forth as a resulty of your first mention . Oi Vey |
