Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Wednesday. Issued
0551z, 27/08/05. The runs continue to show warm/hot weather for southern areas in the middle of next week. They also agree that a trough will be moving in from the west, its progress hindered by extensive ridging over the near Continent. Once the trough eventually moves out of the way there are signs of a north/south split, with southern and eastern areas seeing further warm conditions due to the proximity of high pressure to the south and SE. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif A trough covers Ireland, resulting in southerlies for all. A weak ridge moves over the UK at T+144 to bring westerlies and SW'lies, followed by stronger SW'lies for Northern Ireland and Scotland at T+168; by then a stronger ridge covers England and Wales with lighter winds there. MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif Scotland and Northern Ireland lie under a col with light winds. Elsewhere, a trough from a low over northern France is affecting southern England, with light SE'lies for much of England and northerlies for Wales. By T+144 the trough moves over the North Sea, allowing a weak ridge to cover the UK. Winds are SW'lies over Northern Ireland and NW'lies elsewhere. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.gif GFS shows a shallow trough over England and Wales with a ridge over Ireland. 850hPa temperatures vary from +3C over NW Scotland to +16C over Kent. A ridge covers most of the UK at T+1444, bringing light winds, followed by SW'lies as another trough approaches the UK at T+168. The exception is SE England which lies under northerlies from a small low over northern France. GEM: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rgem1201.gif The Canadian run shows large, deep low to the NW with WSW'lies across the UK. The low moves northwards at T+144 while a ridge builds over the English Channel. This has the effect of bringing SW'lies across the UK. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...270000_120.gif WNW'lies cover the UK due to a trough over the North Sea. The trough is replaced by a high at T+144, resulting in light winds for England and Wales. Elsewhere, winds are SW'lies with a trough to the west. JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows southerlies for all and a trough over Ireland. The trough moves slowly eastwards at T+144, introducing westerlies for Scotland and Northern Ireland; elsewhere winds are light northerlies. NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rngp1201.gif NOGAPS also shows southerlies, this time with a trough to the west. The winds become WSW'lies at T+144 as the trough moves very slowly eastwards. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif The Korean run brings a trough over the UK, with light winds for all. |
