August seemed fairly "normal" this year. Plenty of warm weather, only
getting hot at the end of the month (31.9C on the 31st). Interestingly,
31.9C has been recorded 4 times this year as a maximum temperature, on
27th May, 19th June, 24th June and 31st August. The 19th was notably
cool, with a maximum of only 17.7C - indeed, the temperature steadily
fell from 9am; the temperature at 1pm on the 19th was a mere 16.4C. A
total of 10 days during August saw minima below 10C, with 7.0C on the
6th being the lowest temperature since the 14th June. Rainfall was again
below average; the total rainfall for 2005 to the end of August now
stands at 312.2mm, only 74% of the average*.
