He mentioned it on his gliding forecast site, but the note is no longer there. Like you I have no intention of jumping through such hoops, and so Jack will be unable to see dissenting opinions on what he has done (except here maybe). As I'm not going to publish my exact email address on Usenet it's going to difficult for Jack to whitelist me to get an explanation of why what he has signed up for is wrong, and ultimately damaging, but if a mail _does_ arrive confirming that my address is whitelisted I _will_ attempt an explanation! ![]() "Mike Causer" Jack has unfortunately signed up with an alleged "spam protection" service. That may be your view, but for the sake of a few lost genuine messages, the fact that I have not had a single spam for the past week is well worthwhile. Thanks to you to Dave via this group who put me on to this method of spam avoidance. I too was very sceptical when I first came across this verification request - we had a debate on this group a few weeks ago if you remember. I was finally convinced and am even more convinced now that the system works. If you don't want to "jump through hoops" as you put it, then fine, But I can assure you that to be rid of up to 250 spam messages a day is an absolute delight. He mentioned it on his gliding forecast site, but the note is no longer there. I removed the note once most of my regular correspondents - without any fuss - were transferred to my white list. Jack |

And the 250 innocent people who get a message from this system each day? How do you think they feel? If you really get that much spam you will already know that the "From:" line is _not_ the spammer nowadays, it's another victim from the "35 Million addresses" CD. Someone has dumped a load of rubbish into your garden and you are dealing with it by distributing it to your neighbours. It's OK for you, for a while, but in fact you are just another dumper, and the neighbours will eventually object. Use of this sort of system has been debated hard in the anti-spam groups, and the professional opinion is that this technique is going to make life worse rather than better. If you want an accurate, free, good-neighbour, spam detection/deletion system take a look at spambayes http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/ Mike |
