Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Tuesday. Issued 0542z,
23/09/05. The models generally show a mobile setup for the UK, with wet and (relatively) windy weather interspersed with settled days as ridges move through. GFS and NGP both place more of an emphasis on high pressure though - it remains to be seen whether the other models will back that up, or whether GFS was an outlier. As ever, more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif A trough covers the UK, bringing westerlies to all areas. A weak ridge moves over England and Wales at T+144 to bring WSW'lies and SW'lies across the UK, followed by by more of the same at T+168. MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif A large high lies to the SW with a ridge over Biscay. A deep low is located to the east of Iceland and the UK is sandwiched between the two, with westerlies. The winds become stronger WSW'lies at T+144 as the high builds NE'wards. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.gif The UK lies under a ridge with WNW'lies for England and Wales; elsewhere winds are SW'lies. A shallow low moves over England at T+144 with northerlies for most areas as a result. By T+168 pressure builds over Ireland and Scotland, leaving England and Wales under NNE'lies. GEM: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rgem1201.gif Unavailable today. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...230000_120.gif Westerlies and NW'lies cover the UK with high pressure to the SW. The high moves eastwards at T+144, leading to westerlies for all. JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows the UK between a low to the north and a ridge to the south, with westerlies as a result. The winds are gale force over Scotland although they become lighter NW'lies across the UK on day 6 as a ridge moves eastwards. NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rngp1201.gif Westerlies cover the UK, once again due to a high to the south and a low to the north. The high builds over much of the UK at T+144 with westerlies for Scotland. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif The Korean model shows strong NW'lies as the result of a trough over the North Sea. |
